Boozhoo, Tansi, Shé;kon, Atelihai!
My name is Kaleb Garnier-Wells. I'm a non-binary, mixed-Indigenous youth (26), with ancestry from the Wabanaki Confederacy, Europe, and West Africa. I was born and raised in Toronto, and I describe myself as a "racial mutt" (lovingly, of course). The nickname "Azure" originated in a Discord server for autistic adults, following a bad breakup that led to the loss of my previous username. Azure Art then became "Az-your-art" because I love puns, and there are a lot of "Azures" online!
I graduated from the University of Guelph-Humber with a Bachelor's degree in Applied Science and a certificate in Community Justice Studies, as I sought to address the prison-industrial complex in North America. Unfortunately, part of my life's journey is learning to manage my expectations as an individual (who is not a billionaire) and what can truly be achieved in my lifetime.
I'm a self-taught beader and visual artist by nature. I often joke that I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil, and for the most part, it's true! While attending Rosedale Heights school of the Arts, I primarily worked in traditional mediums, dabbling occasionally in graphic design and film. It wasn't until 6 or 7 years ago that I started drawing digitally. I am definitely an artistic jack of all trades! So, I finally started selling my art out of necessity when my fancy degree and college certificate weren't turning up any job opportunities. I'm a reluctant business owner!
